Electrical Safety Rubber Matting

Electrical safety matting is a special type of rubber mat that helps keep people safe when they are working on electrical equipment. It is mostly used when working with high voltage (HV) equipment, like switchboards, but it can also be used with low and medium voltage (LV and MV) equipment. The UK's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) says that electrical safety matting is very important and can help prevent accidents. They say that it is a good idea to use these mats when working with electricity to keep people safe.

There are different kinds of electrical safety matting, and it's important to choose the right one for the job. The matting needs to be strong enough to protect against the voltage of the equipment being used. It also needs to have other special features like being oil and acid resistant, flame retardant, and having good slip resistance. To make sure the matting is good quality, it needs to meet the standards set by the British Standard (BS) EN 61111:2009. This standard has different categories for different levels of voltage and tells you what level of protection each class of matting offers.

It's important to follow proper installation and maintenance procedures when using electrical safety matting. The mats should be laid out correctly and secured in place so they don't move around. They should also be checked regularly to make sure they are in good condition. If the mats are damaged or worn out, they should be replaced right away to make sure they are still providing the right level of protection. According to the BS EN 61111:2009 standard, electrical safety matting should be tested every 12 months. A visual inspection is usually enough for Class 0 matting, but it's a good idea to do a special test called a dielectric test for the other classes.
