Heated doormats are for outdoor use only and are not to be used indoors. To prevent the heated entrance mats from being used indoors, they are designed with an internal cut-off switch that will not allow the mats to turn on if the ambient temperature is above 18 degrees celsius. Even when using the mats outside, if the ambient temperature is above 16 degree Celsius the mats will not turn on.

Heattrak Heated Door Mats are strong enough to be used outside all winter long, so you can put your heated  door mat outside before the winter starts. Turn it on before snowfall and you can expect best results. Switch this heated door mat on at least 30 minutes before snowfall as it will melt snow on contact . If you turn it on after snowfall, it will take longer to melt). Do keep the mat on a few hours after snow has stopped as you may have water run-off. This ice melting door mat works effectively down to -5 degrees F and melt snow at approximately 2 inches per hour.

This snow melting doormat can be used on most of the surfaces, including asphalt, concrete, stone, and wood decks. However, it is preferable not to use it on decks made of plastic/composite material and can act as an insulator, and can leave burn marks or staining. To prevent this from happening, try to operate the mat during snow fall hours and not leave them on for extended periods of time, or place strips of plywood under the mats to allow the heat to be properly distributed.

In order to operate this door mat, you will need to go outside in the cold to turn it on via the power unit. For your convenience and to automatically control the mat from inside your home, you can use the optional wireless control outlet and switch. Furthermore, another option is thermostat extension cable which plugs into the power unit from an electrical outlet and will automatically turn on your heated mats when the temperature drops below 35 degrees F.
